Glyvia™ is a patented, Health Canada approved natural product and dietary supplement that provides plant-based zero-calorie sweetness. It is a proprietary complex of aminoacetic acid (also known as glycine) and plant glycosides that delivers a unique, full-mouth sweetness similar to that of sugar and without the bitter aftertaste of stevia.  These glycosides are paired with a proprietary blend of amino acids that contribute to blood sugar management while also helping the glycosides adhere to the tongue, allowing for far fewer glycosides to be used and thus eliminating the bitter aftertaste many glycosides, like stevia, are notorious for.

Our combination of sweet plant glycosides has proven to deliver a pleasant sugar-like flavor profile while mitigating astringency, bitterness and herbaceous notes normally associated with any single glycoside.

Glyvia’s formulation of different natural sweet ingredients also brings the texture and mouthfeel of products closer to what consumers expect from traditional sugar. Glycosides play numerous important roles in living organisms. In chemistry, a glycoside is a molecule in which sugar is bound to another functional group via a glycosidic bond. Many plants store chemicals in the form of inactive glycosides. These can be activated by enzyme hydrolysis, which causes the sugar part to be broken off, making the chemical available for use.

There are thousands of glycosides in nature. Many glycosides occur in plants, often as flower and fruit pigments. Various medicines, condiments and dyes from plants occur as glycosides; of great value are the heart-stimulating glycosides of Digitalis and Strophanthus, members of a group known as cardiac glycosides. There are also sweet varieties that are approved by Health Canada and FDA to provide sweetness and are recognized as safe.

No Blood Glucose Impact
The plant glycosides we are using are not absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract and therefore do not contribute to any calories or impact blood glucose levels. When they reach the colon, gut microbes cleave off the glucose molecules and use them as an energy source. The remaining glycoside backbone is then absorbed via the portal vein, metabolized by the liver and excreted in urine.
